- Mrs. Obszanski wanted to say a huge Thank You for the Teacher appreciation week. It was very nice and they had some fantastic food. They also got a massage therapist to come to the school which was great and she offered to volunteer her time for the school, which was so nice. Mrs. Obszanski also wanted to thank the PTO especially Kim Gayeski for the 4th grade service projects, which were great, and the party seemed like a huge success. Also the Battle of the Books was great and a huge success. The staff and students had so much fun with event, it was really great to see the students get excited about reading. Also Tuesday May 2, 2017 is the Skywriter Assembly at PIC and the kids can’t wait to see who’s stories got picked to be acted out by the Skywriters, they are all excited about this. Upcoming at PIC is Field Day which will be held May 26th, 2017. * News from Mrs. Davis (PES):
-Mrs. Davis was not in attendance had nothing new to share in her school right now. *Agenda Business:
- PIC T-shirt/party- Kim Gayeski said the 4th grade party went well, the kids had fun doing their service projects and they turned out awesome. The bird houses seemed to be a big hit with the kids. Kim mentioned majority of the items for the service projects were donated by parents. Thanks a million cause you rock!! The children also had a candy bar at the end of the night where they got a small bag and were able to choose candy before they left, they loved that. We were hoping to have the 4th grade T-Shirts by the party but we seemed to get some late orders sent in so they did not make it by the event. They should be coming home soon though. We had a ton more parent volunteers that stayed and helped out and we would like to personally thank them all! Also she found the party may have been a half hour to long so the 5th grade party will be cut by a half hour. The 5th grade party is scheduled for Friday May 5th, 2017 from 6:30-8:30 p.m

-SchoolStore- Jaime McCleverty said we would like to hear feedback from the teachers on how they used the gift certificates and if they were able to purchase items that could be used in their classrooms.

- Yearbook- Julie Widinski said yearbooks are good to go and they are ordered. - Spring Book Fair- This spring the Book Fair will host a Buy one Get one free. The book fair seemed to go well and Cassandra reminded us that at this BOGO book fair we don’t typically make a profit.

January Meeting Minutes were submitted by Jeanette Kamper- then posted online by Jeanette Kamper. Treasury report was submitted by Cassandra Miller approved by Carmen Connolly and Natalie Clay.
* News from Mrs. Obszanski (PIC):
- Mrs. Obszanski said there was not a lot of news going on right now. She did say that literacy day turned out great!! The students really enjoyed having readers come especially the High School kids! The only thing she reported was that they were going to have a meeting in the next week or two to discuss what could be done differently/better for the next year.
* News from Mrs. Davis (PES):
-Mrs. Davis said there was not a lot of news going on in her school right now either. She did make a point in thanking the PTO for contributing to the purchase of wifi, which is supposed to be done over the summer.
*Agenda Business:
- PIC T-shirt/party- submissions have been entered and on Wednesday March 8th, 2017 they will have a vote on the final drawing that will have their design on the T-Shirt. We may have to charge a small fee for the T-Shirts but that will be determined later. We are in the process of trying to get more donations. As of right now the service project is still being decided, one that kim really likes is the possibility of doing bird houses with the park district.
- Spring Fling –As of right now the Spring Fling looks like it will not be on the calendar this year. No one has stepped forward to chair or even volunteer for the event.

-  Box Tops – Kim Gayeski made the submission for PES the total it was around 8500 box tops which brings the in PTO around $850.00. Way to go parents and students you rock!!! For the Labels for Education it turns out we had accrued with this past submission a total of around 19,000 points, with that being said kim said we are able to purchase maybe a couple Visa gift cards for the PTO and possibly some misc. school supplies. Unfortunately the Labels for Education program is ending this year.
-  Scrip – Cassandra Miller noted that there will be no Scrip order in the Spring before school lets out. For now we will do Scrip right before Christmas as it seems to do best around this time.
-  Little Caesars - Went great and Nicole Johnson would like to do this again next year but hopefully we will get fliers out little bit more in advance, she would like to keep it around Super Bowl. -SchoolStore- Jaime McCleverty said this is another way for the school to earn some cash by just going online and entering our school in and there are over 300 stores you can shop at to earn us credit. Jaime has finalized all the schoolstore.com donations and student prizes and they have been handed out. The teachers were given there gift certificates to use towards purchases on schoolstore.com and the PTO has made $200.00 that can they can use towards purchases also. We would like to hear feedback from the teachers on how they used the gift certificates and if they were able to purchase items that could be used in their classrooms.
page1image31024 page1image31184 page1image31344 page1image31504 page1image31664
-  Holiday Extravaganza- The holiday extravaganza was a great event this year. Cassandra Miller was asked if she wanted to add anything regarding the event and she said no the total profit still remained around $9000.00

-  Sunrise Greenhouse Fundraiser- Jaime Mc Cleverty has gotten the information from Sunrise in the hopes to have this as a possible fundraiser around Mothers Day. The PTO would order flats, pots, baskets or even specialty baskets, depending on what they pick to sell to the families of Peotone for Spring/Mothers Day gifts. Mrs. Davis had one concern she had mentioned that the FFA does a Spring sell also and she would prefer us not to interfere with that. We all agreed that we would find out from the FFA when they host their spring sell as not step on their toes. Until we speak to the FFA the date for the Sunrise Fundraiser is still to be determined.
-  Yearbook- Forms went home to purchase the year books a couple weeks ago and the kids at PES will be voting on the yearbook theme then to be approved by the principle. PIC has Mrs. Feenstra and Mr. Snowden who work with the kids on the yearbook and photos.
-  Spring Book Fair- This spring the Book Fair will host a Buy one Get one free. The dates for PES to host the Book Fair is April 24- 28th and PIC will host their book fair April 4-5th.
*PTO Open Positions 2017-2018
- The PTO board has recognized that the Co-President has stepped down for the remainder of this term and Julie Widinski has accepted the nomination for the interim year and the 2017-2018 school year. With that being said since Julie Widinski was the current secretary this position became vacant. The position was opened to the floor and Jeanette Kamper has accepted the nomination for the interim Secretary position and for the 2017-2018 year. We are still in need of a Co-President and a Co-Treasurer.
* Potential Purchases:
- Natalie Clay had mentioned a request for a garbage can that would sit outside the PES school. She and Mrs. Davis talked about that as it would come out of Mrs. Davis’s budget. Natalie offered to possibly help towards the cost of the can which has to be sturdy due to the winds. She had a suggestion that maybe the Girl Scouts could help do this as a project for them. Maybe a wooden one that could be painted by the troop? We all thought this was a great idea that will be further discussed.
*  Approved/Finalized Purchases: - Staff Appreciation Week- PES will have it May 1-5 with a budget of $1100. PIC will have it April 24-28th with a budget of $750. Connor Shaws date is still to be determined with a budget of $250. Approved by all.
*  Teacher requests- Mrs Hartsfield wants a 30 slot mailbox and a gift card for $25.00 to purchase common core materials.
*  Mrs. Graniczy wants magnetic dry erase boards.
*  Mrs. Norvilas wants white boards with erasers and carts
*  Mrs. Murray wants dry erase pockets
*  Mrs. Hamning wants gift cards to Lakeshore learning center and to Teacher pay Teacher
All requests were approved by all.
Any requests coming in after Monday March 6th will be discussed at the next PTO meeting on May 1st, 2017

* Visitors & Board Opportunity to Speak: - Kim Gayeski has expressed interest in PIC / PES possibly having a movie night as a possible fundraiser. As we cannot charge for the movie we could sell concessions which could be a way to raise some monies. These events are to be discussed further as she looks into it in alittle more detail.
The next PTO Meeting will be May 1, 2017 at 6:30 p.m. at PIC – subject to change
At 7:45 pm a motion to adjourn was made. Approved by Carmen Connolley and seconded by Natalie Clay.

Minutes of the Peotone PTO Meeting – January 9, 2017

Meeting called to order at 6:35pm in the PIC – Lunch Room.

Those in attendance: Chuck Vitton, Carmen Connelly, Amy Deutsche, June Paeth, Ashley Stachniak, Michelle Weirich, Bethany DeMoss, Shari Carp(sp?), Jeanette Kamper, Amanda Bostjancic, Kathy Derkacy , Cassandra Miller, Jaime McCleverty, Rhonda Cusack, Julie Widinski, and Kim Gayeski.

November Meeting Minutes were submitted by Julie Widinski- then posted online by Julie Widinski. November Meeting Minutes approved online by Carrie Vickery Sommerfeld and seconded by Ashley Stachniak.
Treasury report was submitted by Cassandra Miller approved by Rhonda Cusack and seconded by Carmen Connelly.
* News from Mrs. Obszanski (PIC):

- Mrs. Obszanski was not present but Jaime McCleverty spoke to hear earlier in the day and she told Jaime that she loves the Battle of the Books and thanked everyone for the help.
* News from Mrs. Davis (PES):
-Mrs. Davis not present but per Julie Widinski’s conversation with Mrs. Davis she said Mrs. Davis’s original intent to purchase the Grip A Strip was not her priority for PES she said she would prefer those funds be used to get wifi. The board needs to vote on reallocating the funds towards the purchase of wifi. A vote was taken to reallocate the $5,500 to purchasing the wifi and was approved by Amanda Bostjancic and Rhonda Cusack.
*Agenda Business:
  • Wifi- Dr. Vitton was present and spoke first on the status of the Peotone 207-U Wireless Project. He began by saying that technology  focus for the past 3 years has been 1.) Getting new computers in the classrooms and labs 2.) Infrastructure replacement of servers, switches, routers and firewalls. The infrastructure improvements include/are not limited to hardware & software installation and new cabling to support the wireless system necessary to bring more devices in the schools. Peotone CUSD 207U currently qualifies to receive a 60% “E-Rate” discount on infrastructure work through the FCC ( Federal Communications Commission ). This process requires paperwork submissions and engaging in an RFP ( Request for Proposal ) process. It’s customary for the process to begin in January and last thru February, before final decisions can be made and obtaining an approval from the Board of Education. A single RFP will be completed for hardware/software installation and a separate RFP will outline the cabling project. As of right now Dr. Vitton said we are in a holding pattern there are 4 bids currently out for this. All bids must be in by February 6, 2017 then the recommendations will be presented to the Board. After presented to the board they will then decide if they accept the bid in it’s entirety or in a phase process but the decision must be made in February to get the E-Rate discount. Kathy Derkacy asked Dr. Vitton if he got to choose the vendor he was getting bids from? His response was ‘Yes, but since we are a school district the bids are open to the public and it has to be posted for 28 days to the general public to bid on’ he also stated that the board has nothing to do with private vendors it has to be public. The total projected cost of the hardware/software installation would cost approximately $100,000 after the E-Rate discount and the projected amount of the entire cabling project could cost $75,000-$100,000 the cabling amount will not qualify for the E-Rate since we will have consumed the E-Rate funds through the hardware/software installation as previously mentioned. Kim Gayeski asked if the bids coming in are for wifi access to all classes in every school? Dr. Vittons response was : Yes. Dr. Vitton then touched on only PES getting work done which would be done on all access points and recabling and his estimated cost for this with labor being majority cost would approximately cost $26,000 but a more accurate figure will be available  after they receive the RFP’s back in early February. He stated the best projected time to do the install would be summer when school is out. Cassandra Miller asked Dr. Vitton about PIC since it currently does have wifi does it need to be updated? Dr. Vitton replied he would have to see what the wireless survey shows now and see if changes need to be made or maybe just the need for small enhancements but it will be discussed with the bids. Dr. Vittons concerns were not only with technology, computers, and the wifi but how they are going to work with the childrens curriculum since they go hand in hand. Dr. Vitton believes that once the projects are finished and all work is done we will be right with every other district as far as technology. Amanda Bostjancic asked what else we as parents can do to push this out as a priority? Dr. Vitton stated that he understood that the PTO really wants this and as do the parents and that he personally has made the Board aware of our intentions. He also stated that maybe we should attend the board meeting on January 18, 2017 and the February 22, 2017 at Peotone High School at 7 p.m. He also stated that this project has never been denied just postponed due to other district wide funding issues that took priority. Rhonda Cusack asked if they are still using smart boards at PIC? Dr. Vittons response was yes but he may revisit that with the technology bid because he thinks it’s expensive, the cost to change the bulbs alone is very expensive and he said there will be a bigger discussion on the boards in the future but as of now they are not planning to purchase any new ones for the future. Cassandra Miller made a motion to vote on allocating $23,000 that the PTO has now to help purchase part of the wifi. A vote was approved by Kathy Derkacy and Carmen Connelly to reallocate the money. The vote was approved by Carmen Connelly and Rhonda Cusack to move the money to purchase the wifi as a definitive purchase. Dr. Vitton greatly appreciated the funds from the PTO and said the $23,000 will be a definitive part of the agenda for the January 18th meeting. Dr. Vitton left the meeting at 7:30 p.m.
  • Secret Santa Shop- Kim Gayeski said the Secret Santa Shop went well it could of gone little smoother. But now that there is an excel spreadsheet of the products purchased along with what was sold and how much was spent, next year should run a lot better. A portion of what didn’t sell was able to be returned and went back to the PTO. There is not a lot of stuff left over from what could not be returned. There was nothing but positive feedback from parents on the quality of the products this year, everyone liked it better this year then the company we had last year. Kim also stated that this year the Secret Santa Shop made around $3000.00 profit . Kathy Derkacy spoke and noted that Secret Santa was never for a profit, though it did bring in around $1000.00 last year, those funds were used to purchase supplementary items for the following year. It was acknowledged by Kim that she understood that but this year we did make it a profitable fundraiser.
- Spring Fling –As of right now the Spring Fling looks like it will not be on the calendar this year. The PTO has put out on Facebook and the Blog that if we don’t have someone to Chair and Co-Chair the event along with 50 volunteers by February 10, 2017 this will be taken off the calendar. The spring fling was scheduled to take place on March 10, 2017 at 6 p.m., Amanda Bostjancic did suggest that if someone did step up to chair the event she suggested contacting Peotone high school for volunteers as this is a good way for the high school students to get there community hours and in years past the elementary kids really enjoyed the high school kids. Julie Widinski also suggested maybe coming up with a different fundraiser in the spring to make up for not having the Spring Fling.
  • Box Tops – It was noted that the Chair for Box Tops at PES has stepped down. Kim Gayeski will be handling the next submission which will be in April and hopes to come up with something fun to get kids motivated to bring them in.
  • Scrip – Cassandra Miller noted that the Scrip before Christmas was not as advantageous as she would of hoped. She continued to say that she felt it wasn’t publicized as well as it could of been and she took responsibility for that. It did profit around $451.00 but it could of been much better. She stated that they usually do one in March and she is going to cut that one out due to past years it just didn’t make enough profit. She said she will do the end of the year one cause that one seemed to be more profitable.

-SchoolStore- Jaime McCleverty said this is another way for the school to earn some cash by just going online and entering our school in and there are over 300 stores you can shop at to earn us credit. Every time you shop online just go to schoolstore and find the store you want to shop at order, and we get credit. She stated it works like AmazonSmile. She also noted that she doesn’t have profit numbers yet from the program but whenever we want the credit all she needs to do is ask and we can get it.
  • Holiday Extravaganza- The holiday extravaganza was a great event this year. The use of the gym made viewing the vendors and craft fair far easier and we had a lot of positive feedback from the vendors. We tried some new avenues for generating revenue that were successful. Both the placemat advertising and the Lake Geneva Raffle profited about $1000 each. The final bills are coming in and being processed and we should have final profit numbers at the March meeting.

  • Potential Purchases:
- Teacher Requests should be finalized by the March 6th PTO meeting
  • Approved/Finalized Purchases:- Walkie Talkie Radios for the schools: $9000 price may go down depending on how many we purchase.
-New student T-Shirts :$600
- Staff Appreciation Week: $2100
  • Visitors & Board Opportunity to Speak:- Kim Gayeski has expressed interest in PIC having 4th and 5th grade class parties some time in the Spring. She also mentioned the students creating a buddy bench for the playground the costs for this to happen would be covered by the event. She also mentioned  having an Anti Bullying speaker Jim Basketball Jones come to speak to the students. The cost would be roughly $700. for him to come. No vote was taken on this yet as she has proposed all this to Mrs. Obszanski and is awaiting her feedback. This idea has been tabled pending Mrs. Obszanski’s decision.

The next PTO Meeting will be March 6, 2017 at 6:30 p.m. in the PES library – subject to change
