Job Title: 5th Grade Math & Technology Teacher
School: PIC

1) What was the best present you ever received when you were a kid?
The best gift I remember receiving randomly was when my mom came home and told me that she had signed me up for drum lessons. I don't believe it was for Christmas or a birthday; It was just a random gift. Much of my life would have been different had she not been so willing to support that interest of mine.

2) What is your favorite season and what do you like about it?
My favorite season, by far, is autumn. The trees are beautiful and the sun seems to shine on everything differently. I love the golden color of the fields before harvest and mapping out ideas for carving pumpkins. There also seems to come a general feeling of calm during Fall, almost like when the sun goes down each day.

3) If you had to pick one... would you sing or dance in public?
Sing.

4) What is your favorite band/singer?
Lately, it's been The Avett Brothers.

5) Something memorable a student once said to you about your hair/clothes or their own hair/clothes?
Last year, someone claimed that I looked like Elvis. When I asked why, they mentioned that "my hair was tall." I was glad to hear it wasn't because I looked like Elvis in the later stages of his career.

PES Update - No School Thursday (1/21)

Update on PES - No School Thursday (1/21) for PES Students only.

Heat has been restored to Peotone Elementary; however, we do not have water due to a broken pipe. Due to the lack of running water, there will be no school at Peotone Elementary tomorrow, January 21st. All other Peotone School District schools will be in session tomorrow. We will keep you updated on the progress of the repair tomorrow.

Update on PES Relocation

Per the PES Website http://pes.peotoneschools.org/

The students will remain at the high school through the remainder of the day.  We will load buses at Peotone High School and they will take their regularly scheduled routes home.
Walkers will take a bus from the high school to Peotone Elementary where they will be released as usual from the northeast doors.
Car riders will be released from the north doors in the back of the high school. The cars waiting in the pick-up line will be stationed on Oak Street as usual.  Once you have seen the last buses leave the back drive of the high school.  The first car may then begin the procession turning right on to Mill Street from Oak Street proceeding to the end of the road and then making a right onto the high school’s back access drive. Then proceed to the sidewalk at the back of the building.
The park districts after school rec care will take place in the media center of the high school.
The lack of heat at Peotone Elementary is still being addressed and there is no new news at this time.  An automated message will be sent as soon as we receive updated information.  Any information will be posted to the Peotone Elementary’s Facebook page, website at pes.peotoneschools.organd recorded on the outgoing message of the school.  The school’s number is 708-258-6955.
If you need to contact us before dismissal please call the high school at 708-258-3236.

PES Students Relocated

PES students have been relocated to the High School
as the PES building has no heat.  Mrs. Davis will do another school reach when there is more information to update.

KidStuff Books

Would you throw $3,000 away?!
Neither would we!
Therefore, we are in need of 2 people to Chair the
KidStuff Coupon Books next school year.
We are looking for people who are not sitting on the
PTO Board to take charge of this fundraiser.
What do you need to do?
> Accept a shipment of books for the 3 buildings. (1 book per family)
> Label books with family names (via stickers-that's how we track outstanding books)
> Pick-up/Drop-off books for those who are wanting more or returning unsold books to
the 3 buildings.  Ideally 1 person would handle PES/CS and the other would handle PIC.
> Track and turn in payment to treasurer.
>  Return unsold books to the company.
If you have questions, contact us at peotonepto@gmail.com

Take 5 With...Val Monahan

Take 5 With...Val Monahan
Job Title: Kindergarten Teacher
School: PES
1) What was the best present you ever received when you were a kid?
Cabbage Patch Kid- They were so popular, they were sold out everywhere.  On Father's Day a big shipment must have come in because my dad brought my sister & I to Toys R Us & we both got to pick out our own doll.  It was amazing!!
2) What is your favorite season and what do you like about it?
Summer- I love spending quality time with my 3 kids, not having a schedule, hanging out by the pool/beach & boating.
3) If you had to pick one... would you sing or dance in public?
  Dance in public
4) What is your favorite band/singer?
Taylor Swift- I went to her 1989 concert this past summer with my daughter for her 13th birthday (her 1st concert).  It was an awesome concert!!
5) Something memorable a student once said to you about your hair/clothes or their own hair/clothes?
On one of our really hot days this year, I prepared myself by putting my hair in a ponytail & a headband to stay cool.  Normally, I wear my hair down.  I was greeting my students in the morning in the hallway & one of my students looked at me & said "Who are you?"  It was so funny...the other kids said "It is Mrs. Monahan."  I guess I must look really different with my hair up and pulled back.
